Biographical Text

Francis Joseph Maney, also known as “Joe”, was born in the District of Columbia, but also lived in Virginia, Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota, Missouri, and Westfield, NJ before residing in Mahwah for the last 42 years of his life.

He enlisted on August 29, 1942 and fought for the U.S. Army Air Forces (before the Air Force was its own service branch), and was discharged January 22, 1946.

Maney was a graduate of the Illinois Institute of Technology. He worked as an electrical engineer and salesman for White Rodgers/Emerson Electric, and worked until the age of 65.

He was married to Lucille Margaret for 52 years, and they had seven children. As well, he was a member of VFW post 7124 in Mahwah, and described as being a “devout Catholic” in the community.
