Military Service Description

With her experience as a nurse, Elizabeth Harrison joined the Army Nurses Corps during World War II. By February 1945, she was commissioned as a second lieutenant after undergoing an indoctrination course at Ft. Dix, NJ. Later that year, she was stationed at Charles F. Mason General Hospital in Brentwood, LI, NY. Named General Hospitals offered complex medical and surgical care. At her discharge, Harrison was ranked as a lieutenant.

Biographical Text

Elizabeth R Sklivis was born on 1917-03-18 to John Sr. and Elizabeth Remo in Mahwah, NJ. She had two older brothers: John Jr. and Micahel. Her younger siblings were: Andrew, Helen, Marion, James, Charles, and Robert. Remo graduated from Ramsey High School in 1933. After graduation, she attended a four year college to become a nurse. As a nurse, she was registered in New York and New Jersey. In 1937, she was employed at Greystone State Hospital in Morriston, NJ. In 1938, she was hired at the Bergen Pines County Hospital in Paramus, NJ. Remo married Le Roy P. Harrison in 1939. Harrison served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. Le Roy officially filed for divorce in 1947. Remo married Andrew J. Sklivis in Alabama on 1946-06-30. They were also married in Oregon on 1972-08-09. They remained married until Andrew’s death in 1994. Sklivis worked in the crib ward of Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY in 1949. Sklivis and her husband moved to Oregon. They adopted their only daughter, Constance Elizabeth, from Germany in 1960. Sklivis’s occupation became a housewife. Sklivis passed away on 2005-06-07. She was 88.
