Military Service Description

Stephen Krinsky enlisted into the United States Navy on 1926-08-02. He served on the USS Memphis (CL-13). From mid 1926 into 1927, the USS Memphis was stationed in European waters. In June 1927, Memphis picked up Captain Charles Lindbergh after his nonstop flight from NY to Paris and dropped him off in Washington DC. Memphis remained on the east coast for the rest of 1927 performing surveillance duty in the Atlantic. Krinsky and Memphis helped escort President Calvin Coolidge to the West Indies in January of 1928. They also served in the Caribbean and western Pacific. Krinsky was discharged as a seaman first class on 1930-07-31. 

Biographical Text

Stephen Peter Krinsky Sr. was born on 1908-05-07 to John and Elizabeth Krinsky in Tuxedo, NY. Krinsky was one of twelve children. He had two older sisters: Annie and Mary. His nine younger siblings were: Rose, John, Michael, Elizabeth, Helen, George, Olga, Joseph, and Harold.The Krinsky’s lived on Island Rd, Mahwah. They were members of the Holy Ghost Greek Church, Mahwah.

He married Fabiola Champagne. The Krinsky’s moved to New Hampshire, Fabiola’s home state. While in NH, he was employed with the Works Progress Administration. The Krinsky’s moved back to Mahwah in 1942 with their children, Elizabeth, Stephen Jr., George, and Margaret. They lived on Valley Road and later Seminary Avenue. Krinsky worked at the Immaculate Conception Seminary as a night watchman. Krinsky died on 1954-01-31. He was 46.
