Biographical Text

Donald Stricker was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens. At the age of 20, he enlisted in the Korean War. He served as Sergeant First Class in the Army from October 1952 until July 1954. In December 1953 he was injured while falling down the side of ravine, breaking his femur. Through many months of hospitalization and surgery, he returned home. He met the love of his life, Anne Sheridan, after attending a Mass in Queens. They married and moved to Mahwah in 1961 when Eastman Kodak relocated to the area. The Strickers raised five children in Mahwah.

In 1962 Don joined the Mahwah Fire Co #1 and remained a member until his death on October 15, 2019, providing 57 years of community service. Don and Anne were also on the Mahwah Ambulance Corps Co#1 for many years.
