Military Service Description

David Wilcox enlisted into the Army Air Corps reserves on 1943-12-17 at Fort Dix, NJ. After being called to active duty, Wilcox completed his basic training at Miami Beach, FL as an army aviation cadet. Wilcox was honorably discharged on 1945-11-06. 

Wilcox reenlisted into the Air Force on 1951-05-02. He was promoted to second lieutenant shortly after his reenlistment at Ellington Air Force Base, TX. After assignment at Ellington AFB, Wilcox was sent to Korea on 1952-12-28. He was a navigator with the 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, Night Photographic and the 67th Tactical Reconnaissance Wing. Wilcox was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with the 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On 1953-02-21, Wilcox obtained one hundred percent coverage of all five photographic targets in Haeju, North Korea. Wilcox returned to the United States on 1953-06-15 after completing fifty night missions. Lieutenant Wilcox was assigned to Mather Air Force Base, CA as a navigation instructor. Wilcox continued to serve in the Air Force before his discharge on 1979-05-31.

Biographical Text

David Wright Wilcox was born on 1925-11-24 in Brooklyn, NY to Arthur and Mabel Wilcox. The Wilcox’s lived on Alcott Road, Mahwah. He graduated from Ramsey High School in 1943. Wilcox served in the Air Force from 1943-1945. 

Wilcox married Dacia Muryn on 1948-12-27 at Christ Episcopal Church in Suffern, NY. Dacia and David lived on Masonicus Road in Mahwah. They had one son, David Jr. Wilcox attended the Paul Smith School of Forestry and worked as an efficiency clerk in the telegraph industry. He re-enlisted into the Air Force in 1951 and served until 1979. The Wilcox’s also lived in Guilford, Connecticut and Sacramento, Forest Hill and Los Angeles, CA. Wilcox passed away on 2007-06-09 in CA.
