Military Service Description

Joseph Warhol was drafted and enlisted into the United States Army on 1942-04-06. He was inducted into the Army and completed basic training at Fort Dix, NJ. He served with the 631st Field Artillery Battalion and the Fifth Army. Warhol landed at Casablanca, French Morocco in February 1943. From there, he saw action in Sicily, and Po Valley (northern Italy). Warhol was discharged from the Army as a private first class on 1945-10-17. 

Biographical Text

Joseph Warhol was born on 1920-02-14 in Orlik, Czechoslovakia to George Sr. and Anna Warhol. He was the oldest child of three. His two younger siblings were Anna and George Jr. The Warhol’s immigrated to America to Valley Rd, Hohokus. Valley Rd would eventually become part of Mahwah. The Warhol’s opened Valley Tavern, also on Valley Rd. Joseph worked as a bartender. Warhol served in the Army from 1942 until his discharge in 1945. 

After the war, he lived in Passaic and later in Clifton. He completed an accounting course at Paterson Commercial College. He joined the Pulaski Citizens Club in 1955. He was also a member of the Saddle Brook American Legion, serving as its junior vice commander (1958,1966) and publicity chairman (1958). He was a parishioner at Saints Peter and Paul’s Russian Orthodox Cathedral in Passaic. He worked as a counterman at Rutt’s Hut restaurant in Clifton before his retirement in 1985. He died on 1993-07-30. He was 73.
