Biographical Text

Samuel Alderisio was born on January 3, 1936. Alderisio worked for the American Brake Shoe Company and attended Fairleigh Dickinson University. He enlisted in the Navy and was stationed on the USS Coral Sea. When Alderisio returned, he married Joan Theresa Brehove on May 7, 1960 in Mahwah, New Jersey. On July 1, 1985, Alderisio was promoted from Sergeant to Mahwah Chief of Police and became the fourth Police Chief. During his tenure, the department underwent major technological advancement and growth such as the Mahwah Police department becoming a Regional 9-1-1 Answering Point and installing the first In-House computer system and Mobile Data Terminals.

Alderisio participated in both the D.A.R.E. program and the Mahwah Municipal Alliance before retiring as Chief of Police on January 31, 2001. He served as a Councilman for Mahwah since 2005 before become vice president of the council in 2007. On January 17, 2021, Samuel Alderisio died at the age of 85. He is survived by his former wife, Joan, his children named Laurie Dombrowski, Lisa Pandise, Lynne Parkin, Tony Alderisio, and his grandchildren.
