Military Service Description
Frederick E. Delhagen was a member of the U.S. Army Air Force. He trained in advanced gunnery at Clovis and Alamagordo, MN before being shipped to England on February 18, 1944. He was a tailgunner on the B-24 Liberator "Stardust," which collided with another bomber during take-off in poor weather. The planes both crashed near Deerdens, in England on March 27, 1944.
Biographical Text
Frederick Delhagen was born in Califon, NJ, and moved to Mahwah when he was young. He attended Mahwah Grammar school and in 1940 graduated from Ramsey High School. He was working on a degree in aeronautical engineering at Casey Jones School of Aerounatics in Newark when he was drafted.
Family Members
He was the only child of Henry and Clara Delhagen.
