Military Service Description

Charles Hellik enlisted into the United States Army Air Force on 1942-11-02. He became a radio and radar operator for the 127th Army Airways Communications System Squadron. The 127th was stationed in India. The 127th and other Army Airways Communications System Squadrons provided communications along the route into China, relayed messages to ground stations, and guided aircrafts through harsh weather and enemy fire. Hellik was discharged as a corporal on 1946-03-07. 

Biographical Text

Charles Francis Hellik was born on 1918-07-10 in Mahwah, NJ to Ludwig and Ksenia Hellik. Hellik had three siblings: John, Clara, and Anna. The Hellik’s lived on Island Road. Hellik graduated from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in 1934 and was a recipient of the annually awarded American Legion medal. He attended high school for two years and worked as a molder for the American Brake Shoe & Foundry Company in Mahwah before enlisting into the United States Army Air Force in 1942. 

After his discharge in 1946, Hellik lived on Church Street, Mahwah with his mother. He worked as a brakeman at the American Brake Shoe & Foundry Company before becoming a janitor at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY. Hellik passed away at Bergen Pines Hospital, Paramus on 1966-06-06. He was 47.
