Military Service Description

Anthony Wastog enlisted into the United States Marine Corps 1942-08-12. From October of 1942, through April 1943, he was stationed at Camp Lejeune, New River, NC. Wastog was a private until his promotion to assistant cook in January 1943. He was assigned to Fourth Separate Recruit Battalion, Fleet Marine Force for training.  He was also assigned to Battery "H", 3rd Battalion, 12th Marines, Attached 23rd Marines; Battery "H", 3rd Battalion, 14th Marines, Attached 23rd Marines, Fleet Marine Force; and Parachute School, Parachute Battalion, and the 19th Replacement Battalion. By July of 1943, he was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company, 19th Replacement Battalion, 2nd Defense Battalion, Tutuila, American Samoa. By October of 1943, he was stationed with Base Depot, Fleet Marine Force, Samoan Group. From there, he was transferred to Casual Company Number Three, MD, USNH in San Diego, CA in January of 1944. While still stationed  at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, he was placed with the Rifle Range Detachment in April of 1944. His last transfer was to Barracks Detachment, Marine Barracks, N.A.D., in Hawthorne, NV. He was stationed here until his discharge from the Marines on 1946-02-06. He was discharged as an assistant cook.

Biographical Text

Anthony Daniel Wastog Sr. was born 1921-02-06 in Mahwah, NJ to Joseph and Elizabeth Wastog (née Lomjanick). He had three older brothers: Michael, Stephen, and George. He also had two sisters: Julia and Mary. The Wastog’s lived on Brook St. in Mahwah. He attended Ramsey High School. He was employed by American Brake Shoe & Foundry Co. He enlisted into the United States Marine Corps in 1942 and was discharged in 1946. Wastog married Beverly Trommel on 1961-07-14 in Ramapo, NY. They had two children: Anthony Jr. and Beverly. Wastog worked as a maintenance supervisor for Timplex Inc in Hackensack, NJ. He was also a member of the Mahwah Elks Club. Wastog died on 1982-09-17. He was 61.
